Frequently
Asked
Questions (FAQs)
WHAT
IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is actually a natural state of
mind that
people go in and out of all day long.
Daydreaming is a form of self hypnosis where you are aware of
your
thoughts but oblivious to your surroundings.
During hypnosis you are NOT asleep, but in a state of heightened
awareness. A hypnotherapist focuses this
attention on certain ideas that you want explored.
WHO
CAN BE HYPNOTIZED?
Anyone with an open mind,
reasonable
intelligence, the ability to concentrate, and the willingness to go
into
hypnosis.
IS
HYPNOSIS DANGEROUS?
There has never been a documented case
of harm
coming to anyone from the therapeutic use of hypnotism.
WHAT
DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO BE HYPNOTIZED?
Hypnosis is a very pleasant feeling of
complete
physical and mental relaxation that is similar to that moment between
knowing
you are awake and going into the sleep state.
CAN
A PERSON BE HYPNOTIZED AGAINST THEIR WILL OR MADE TO DO ANYTHING
AGAINST THEIR
WILL?
A person under hypnosis is in
complete
control. The hypnotherapist is only a
guide and not in control of the person being hypnotized.
His only role is to add structure to what you
are thinking about. If he was not there
your mind would wander in many directions and you would probably not
get the
answers that you were looking for.
DO
PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE COMING OUT OF HYPNOSIS?
There is no problem coming out of
hypnosis. If the hypnotherapist left the
room and did
not return, the person under hypnosis would either come out of hypnosis
at that
time or fall asleep and wake up later feeling rested.
HOW
MUCH WILL I REMEMBER?
You must want recall of
information. You will remember information
that was
available to you in the session. Sometimes
information will be in minute detail, but often you will recall it in
chunks of
memory.
HOW
CAN I PREPARE FOR A SESSION?
Wear comfortable clothes. If
you wear contact lenses you will want to
remove them if your eyes tend to dry out when they are closed. Avoid a large meal prior to session. Fully complete any necessary paperwork that is
requested on the day of the session.
IS THERE
ANYTHING I
SHOULD DO AFTER A SESSION?
Jot notes about salient remembrances,
hydrate,
and telephone with an update.
WHAT
WILL I REVEAL?
A person under hypnosis is in
complete
control. You reveal what you choose or
what associations are linked together.
Often hypnosis gives you permission to reveal information that
you kept
private and, on some cognitive level, wanted known.
WILL
IT WORK?
Most people have positive
experiences. There are many determiners -
circumscribed problem
or issue, amount of information about yourself that you are willing to
share,
and reasonable expectations.
